Police file offence against Navy officer for tourturing wife
Police today registered an offence against a naval officer for torturing his wife and demanding a dowry of Rs 50 lakh from her parents.
The 26-year-old wife filed a complaint at Colaba police station against her husband and family last month following which the police after conducting an inquiry registered an offence against the officer today under Sections 498 A and 34 of the IPC.
According to the police, the victim was being mentally and physically tortured by her husband Ajitabh Shukla (28), and her in laws.
"They abused her for the last one year. The day the case was registered, the victim was beaten with a iron rod" said Rameshwar Suple, senior inspector of Colaba police station.
The lady who married into the Shukla family started being harassed right after the wedding, but it was in 2013 that Ajitabh started getting aggressive with his demands, said the police.
No arrests have been made yet, but the accused has secured interim relief from the court. The victim is currently at her maternal residence in Visakhapatnam, said the police.
