Former editor of Maharashtra Herald and noted journalist Thaher Sheikh passed away after a brief illness this morning in a private hospital here. He was 75 and is survived by his wife, daughter and son.


Thaher was very much known for his acumen, in politics and had made a name for himself in various aspects while covering the municipal corporation till his retirement.

Thaher joined Maharashtra Herald under the able guidence of late Able David in 1960, and made speedy progress to enhance the tabulation for many years. Maharashtra Herald is now under the Sakal Group Publications.

According to Thaher's family sources, he was suffering from high fever for which he was admitted to Poona Hospital where he passed away.

Thaher will be buried at the Bhawani Peth Burial Ground (Kabrasthan) late evening today, where a large number of people from various fields, including media, will be present.
