A close aide of Prime inister-designate Narendra Modi and senior BJP leader Anandiben Patel was today sworn-in as the first woman Chief Minister of Gujarat.

Governor Kamla Beniwal administered the oath of office and secrecy at 1239 hrs to Patel, an MLA from Ghatlodia Assembly constituency, in an impressive function held at Mahatma Mandir here. Patel, 72, has become the 15th Chief Minister of the state.

Alongwith Patel, six Cabinet Ministers including Babubhai Bokhiria, who has been facing corruption charges, and 14 Ministers of State (MoS) also took oath.

Three MoS Puroshottam Solanki, Vasan Ahir and Parbat Patel were dropped.

The oath taking ceremony was attended by Modi, BJP national president Rajnath Singh, party veteran leader LK Advani, senior leaders Sushma Swaraj, MM Joshi, Venkaiah Naidu, Nitin Gadkari, BJP Chief Ministers- Raman Singh, Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Vasundhara Raje, Manohar Parikkar, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal, Keshubhai Patel and others. Patel was elected unopposed as Leader of the BJP Legislature Party yesterday. She is a teacher by profession, and was handling four top portfolios -- Revenue and Urban Development and Urban Housing, Road and Building, Disaster Management and Capital Projects. Cabinet Ministers those took oath with the new Chief Minister include -- Nitin Patel, Saurabh Patel, Ramanlal Vora, Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, Ganpat Vasava and Babubhai Bokhiria.

The Ministers of State who took oath include Dilip Thakor, Vasubahen Trivedi, Pradeepsinh Jadeja, Chhatrasinh Mori, Jaydrathsinh Parmar, Rajnikant Patel, Govind Patel, Nanubhai Vanani, Jayanti Kavadia, Shankar Chaudhury, Tarachand Chheda, Jayesh Radadiya, Bajubhai Bhabad and Kantibhai Gamit.
