Quake shook Kolkata, no casualty
An earthquake measuring 6 on the Richter scale shook Kolkata and its adjoining areas tonight, triggering panic among the people, though no immediate reports of casualty were received so far.
Meteorological office said the quake originated in 60 km east of Paradip at a depth of 10 kms at 9.52 PM,
''The epicentre of the earthquake was in the Bay of Bengal. It was 5.6 on the Richter scale,'' the MET office said.
The people in Kolkata and its adjoining areas suddenly felt the tremor and came out of their homes. Some people say they heard rattling of utensils and the floor shaking for about 10 seconds.
