An earthquake of moderate intensity having its magnitude 6.0 on the Richter scale rocked several parts of Odisha at 2152 hours with its epicentre at Latitude 18.3 degree North and Longitude 87.9 degree East in Bay of Bengal about 310 Kms south-east of Seismological Observatory, Bhubaneswar ,Met sources here tonight said.


The earthquake was felt at Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Balasore, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Mayurbhanj and Ganjam districts.

The people ran out of their house, apartments in panic to the open space to save themselves from any imminent danger to their lives.

The details of damages caused to the buildings and other property due to the moderate quake in the state are yet to ascertained.
