West Bengal Pradesh Congress President Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury today disbanded several district and block committees of the party following its poor performance in the Lok Sabha elections in the state.

'According to the party constitution all posts became redundant after I became the new chief. The posts were kept vacant since the elections were round the corner. So after the polls these committees were declared redundant,' Mr. Chowdhury said.

The Congress, which had won six seats in alliance with the Trinamool Congress in 2009, retained four seats.
