BJP to decide Modi's successor in Gujarat
With Narendra Modi becoming the next Prime Minister of the country, the BJP is likely to decide his successor in Gujarat today.
BJP Parliamentary Board member Thawar Chand Gehlot and party's Gujarat in-charge Om Mathur, who have been appointed as Central observers, will hold a crucial meeting in the evening in the state capital at around 1600 hrs with the party MLAs and elect Leader of the Legislature Party. Ahead of the BJP MLAs meeting, a special session of the Assembly will be held at around 1100 hrs where the MLAs will extend a farewell to the outgoing Chief Minister.
After the session, Mr Modi, who has been the Chief Minister of the state for the last 12 years, is likely to submit his resignation to Gujarat Governor Kamla Beniwal.
Revenue Minister Anandi Patel is among the front-runner for the Chief Minister's post. The political observers also point out to two other main likely contenders for the CM's post-- Finance Minister Nitin Patel and Mr Modi's chief strategist Amit Shah.
Mr Modi will be sworn in as India's 15th Prime Minister on May 26.
