A man who was allegedly upset because of his daughter's marriage with someone from a different caste, was murdered by his son-in-law at Mauje Markal village in Khed taluka of Pune district yesterday.

According to the police, the deceased Balasaheb Namdev Wable (45), was a resident of Golegaon in Khed.

His brother, Santosh Wabale (35), has lodged a complaint in this connection, at the Alandi Devachi police station. The police have booked Balasaheb's son-in-law, Balu Sadashiv Kanade and others, under sections 302 of the Indian Penal Code.

Police sub-inspector, BH More, who is the investigation officer in this case said Kanade had married Balasaheb Wabale's daughter, Najuka about three years ago following a love affair.

Kanade is a cobbler by caste, while Wabales are Mahadev Kolis.

He said, 'Prima facie we suspect that there was some dispute because of the inter-caste marriage, over which Kanade and his aides allegedly attacked Wabale with a sharp weapon, causing his death.'

Investigation are still on to confirm the motive behind the murder. Police said they were yet to arrest Kanade, adding that they had launched a search party for him.
