Modi gets rousing welcome in Gujarat Assembly
Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi today received a rousing welcome by the Gujarat Assembly members who extended a farewell to the outgoing Chief Minister who will be sworn-in as India's 15th Prime Minister on May 26.
The MLAs, cutting across party lines, extended greetings to Mr Modi.
The environment in the House got emotional when Leader of Opposition Shankersinh Vaghela hugged Mr Modi.
He also presented a shawl to the PM-designate.
Mr Modi's close aide Amit Shah, Revenue Minister Anandi Patel and Finance Minister Nitin Patel lauded Mr Modi saying that he will provide the country a "Bharat model" of development just like his "Gujarat model".
Speaker Vajubhai Vala had called a special session of the House to give a farewell to Mr Modi, who, for them, has made the state proud by becoming the second Gujarati to adorn the top job after Morarji Desai.
Mr Modi, elected for consecutive four times as the Chief Minister, has been the leader of the House for more than last 12 years.
After the session, Mr Modi is likely to submit his resignation to Gujarat Governor Kamla Beniwal.
Mr Modi led the NDA to a landslide victory in the Lok Sabha elections.
