KKRiders beat CSKings to script 5th consecutive win
Sakib al Hasan's 21 ball-46 helped Kolkata Knight Riders to script their fifth consecutive win and keep their play off spot alive when they beat strongest IPL side Chennai Super Kings by eight wickets at Eden Gardens tonight.
Set to score 155 to win in allotted 20 overs Gautam Gambhir side posted the target easily making 156/2 to avenge their first leg defeat to CSK, who already qualified for the knockout stage of four.
Earlier, sent to bat MS Dhoni's side scored 154 for loss of four wickets. With two matches to play against RCB and Sunrisers of Hyderabad on May 22 and May 24 KKR has now secured 14 points from 12 matches and eyeing for knockout stage.
But the road to victory was set up by big hitter Robin Utahppa who scored 67 from 39 balls. KKR lost their first and captain Gautam Gambhir wicket when the southpaw attempted a big hit but got an inside edge off Ishwar Pandey and onto the stumps on 21 when the hosts were 65 on board.
But inform batsman Robin Uthappa, who has already scored 422 in this years IPL tournament, was in form when the team really needed his bat to talk. The big hitter Uthappa partnering with Manish Pandey gave plenty to the home crowd to cheer about and scored the highest score for any palyer of the night posting 67 in 39 balls.
He hit ten boundaries and one big six, much to fun to the Eden crowds before giving a high catch to Faf Du dPlessis of Ravindra Jadeja at long-off.
After Man of the Match Uthappa departed to the pavilion, former Bangladeshi captain Hasan's trail blazing 46 from 21 balls with six boundaries and a sixer made KKR unbeatable for the fifth on trot.
Earlier, fiery 65 from 52 balls by Suresh Raina took Chennai Super Kings to 154 for loss of four wickets.
Playing for the first time this seasons on home turf KKR captain Gautam Gambhir was desperate to win against the already qualified IPL side CSK, for a place in the playoff decided to bowl first on placid surface to extract advantage.
Besides, brilliant 65 from left handed Suresh Raina, Brendon McCullum made 28 from 24 balls with two sixes and boundary, F Du Plessis made 23 and skipper M S Dhoni 21 not out.
