The Department of History of Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra has started a new post graduate course Masters in South Asian Studies with 25 seats from the 2014-15 session.


One has to qualify the entrance test to get admission to this course whereas other educational qualification for this course will remain same as of Masters in History.

While giving out more details on the course, Head of the Department of History Prof Amarjit Singh said Kurukshetra University is the first such university in all North India which has started such a course.

He said this is a professional course and would open job opportunities for the students on completion of the course not just in India but also abroad. Besides, this would get students chance for higher studies in reputed research institutes and foreign universities.

Prof Singh said in this course the students would be taught about social, cultural, economic, political and interpersonal relations of the South Asian countries like India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

South Asian Studies course is already being taught in India Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, Jaipur University, Jaipur and Central University, Bhatinda and many popular universities abroad like Oxford University, U K, and Cambridge University, Cambridge, Chicago University, Chicago, California University, Berkeley. For the purpose of research, a South Asian University, New Delhi has also been set up, he added.
