The procurement process of wheat in Punjab is still in full swing with various government agencies and private millers procuring more than 1,16,17,706 tonnes of wheat till last evening against 1,10,33,614 tonnes procured on this date last year.

An official spokesman said here today the instructions have already been issued to make payment to farmers within 48 hours of lifting of their produce and Rs 14,580.47 crore has already been paid to farmers.

The procurement process is being conducted in 1,757 centers all over the state.

The spokesman of the government said out of total procurement of 1,16,17,706 tonnes of wheat in all the procurement centers of Punjab, government agencies procured 1,13,39,395 tonnes of wheat till date whereas private traders procured 2,78,311 tonnes of wheat.

Till May 19, MARKFED procured 25,18,558 tonnes (21.7PC), PUNSUP procured 23,97,881 tonnes (20.6PC). whereas PUNGRAIN had procured 13,89,355 tonnes (12.0 PC) PSWC procured 13,12,015 tonnes (11.3PC) whereas PAIC was able to procure 11,36,729 tonnes (9.8 PC) of wheat. The Central Government agency FCI had been able to procure 1813411 tonnes (15.6PC).

The spokesman added District Sangrur with 10,19,173 tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas District Ludhiana with 8,94,592 tonnes of procurement was at second slot and district Bathinda with 8,38,427 tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.
