Modi bids an emotional adieu to his constituency
Thanking the people of his assembly constituency Maninagar for electing him for three consecutive terms with huge margins, Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi sought blessings from the people for his assignment at the Centre.
Addressing a massive public rally in Maninagar, Mr Modi said though he was leaving the constituency to take the new charge, the dreams of the people would be realised. He said he was overwhelmed by the trust reposed in him by the people of Maninagar.
He also asked the people of Maninagar and the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation to celebrate 100 years of Maninagar in 2015. He said that the centenary celebrations should be turned into the festival of the development of the area.
Referring to his public rally during the campaigning for the state assembly elections in 2012, Mr Modi said, during the rally, the people chanted ''Modi for PM, though they were to vote for the state government.''
''The people's aspirations and the verdict never fail,'' he quipped.
Lauding his close aide Amit Shah for the BJP's historic success in Uttar Pradesh, Mr Modi said, ''Amitbhai won double the seats in UP than the Congress managed in entire country.''
He also remembered his early days as an RSS Pracharak when he used to move about in Maninagar.
He promised to give a very good MLA to Maninagar, after he resigns as an MLA.
This was his last public rally as a Gujarat Chief Minister.
Revenue Minister Anandiben Patel, Party President RC Faldu and senior leader Purushottam Rupala were also present on the occasion.
Earlier, Mr Modi and Mr Shah were accorded a grand welcome by the party workers at Ahmedabad airport.
