TMC Supporters block GT Road against resignation of Moloy Ghatak
A section of ruling Trinamool Congress supporters today blocked the busy highway GT Road in this industrial town in protest against the resignation of Agriculture Minister Moloy Ghatak after debacle at Asansol Lok Sabha seat poll.
Local leader Moloy Ghatak was forced to tender his paper after TMC chairman and chief minister Mamata Banerjee asked him to do so.
Mr Ghatak was the first casualty after TMC candidate Dola Sen, who is also trade union leader, lost to BJP candidate and Bollywood singer Babul Supriya at the presitigious Asansol Lok Sabha seat in Burdhaman district.
Scores of TMS supporters, known as close followers of Moloy Ghatak put up roadblockade on the busy Grant Trunk Road connecting other parts of the country protesting the resignation. They alleged that Ghatak has been a 'true soldier' of the TMC since its inception and his resignation would hamper the organisation greatly in the region.
However, the protesters lifted their blockade after Abhishek Ghatak, brother of Moloy, intervened after few hours. A section in the party had held Ghatak, a lawmaker from the Asansol North assembly seat, responsible for Sen's defeat.
Ghatak, an MLA from the Asansol North assembly seat, was not available for comment.
