The Thane police recently booked officials, including an architect and a builder, of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) for allegedly duping flat buyers.

Kalwa Police Inspector RD Malekar told UNI, that offences under sections 178, 179, 181, 406, 420, 467, 468, 471, 474, 504, 506(2) rw 34 of the IPC have been registered against the alleged accused and no arrest have been made in connection with the fraud so far.

The alleged accused against whom the offences are registered include Vivek Mangla the developer, Pravin Jadhav the architect who has much clout in the TMC, and officials of the concerned department (they have not been named as yet in the FIR or the crime).

The offence states that the fraud took place between 2010-2011, at a Upper Crest housing society, developed by Mangla in Datta Wadi area of Kalwa.

Complainants Sidhharth U Dwivedi, Sunil Dinkar Shinde, and Deepak Salunke are residents of the society, and had lodged a complaint with the police following which the offence was registered and the alleged accused booked.

According to the complaint, the accused had connived and reduced the area of the flats allotted to the complainants by presenting and getting approved a modified plan. The difference between the agreed and the actual flat was used by the developer for the purpose of his commercial premises adjacent to the building in question.

The offence registered by the police has sent shock waves in civic circles and in all probabilities those officials who approved the fake plan are also likely to be roped in and arrested along with the developer and the architect, a police official said.
