Martyr Bhikle's funeral performed with full state honours
Martyr Jawan Uttam Balu Bhikle's last rites were performed with full state honours on a specially erected platform in an open ground near his house in Hadgle village in Gadhinglaj tehsil of this district today.
Bhikle was killed in a terrorist attack at Sundarban in Aknur sector of Kashmir area on Sunday.
His body was brought to the Maratha Light Infantry office at Tembaliwadi on the outskirts of the city at around 0745 hrs today.
Thousands of villagers, who were awaiting Bhikhle's body began chanting slogans like 'Uttam Bhile Amar Rahe'.
The funeral, performed with full state honours and rounds of gunfire, saw a large number of people show up to pay homage to the fallen hero. His father Balu lit the pyre at around 1000 hrs after completion of all religious ceremonies.
The newly-elected MP of Kolhapur Dhananjay Mahadik, MLA Sadndhyadevi Kupekar, Deputy Superintendent of Police Mahamad Makandar, Tehsildar Hanumant Patil, and other government military officers were also present for the funeral.
Labour Minister Hasan Mushrif met Bhikhle's family members last night and condoled his father and wife. He also announced Rs 2,00,000 as financial help to family members on behalf of the Mushrif foundation.
