Olympic legend Carl Lewis inspires Mumbai's budding athletes
Budding athletes got a chance to share the field with American sprint star and Olympic gold medallist Carl Lewis on Monday in Mumbai, who inspired and encouraged sportspersons to unleash their potential and participate in global events.
The event was billed as a golden opportunity for youngsters to meet Lewis, nine-time Olympic champion.
After meeting Lewis, a young athlete, Naina, said it was dream come true.
"He is just an inspiration, so, I am glad I got to meet him. Actually, we haven't spoken that much yet, but just seeing him itself is an inspiration," said Naina.
Lewis also shared his experiences and motivated budding sprinters to participate in the Olympic events.
"I was very excited to meet him and just seeing him, I think (it) was a really helpful and a very motivating experience," said Yash, another young athlete.
Lewis is considered one of the best track and field athletes ever produced by the United States.
He won Olympic gold medals in the 100 metres, 200 metres, long jump and sprint relay.
Lewis, who won four gold medals in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics and nine gold medals overall in track and field, grew up New Jersey and settled in California.
