Cong leaders must unite to improve performance in assembly polls
As there was a 'Modi tsunami' of Bharatiya janata party (BJP) spread all over the country, and in this tsunami Congress party candidates in Hatkanangale Lok Sabha constituency of Kolhapur district and neighbouring lone Sangli Lok Sabha constituency were washed away, but in Kolhapur Lok Sabha constituency Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidate Dhananjya Mahadik has succeeded to capture Lok Sabha seat on his own power as he devoted himself for the welfare of his constituency in the last ten years with a stronghold on his Kolhapur constituency.
In Hatkanangale Lok Sabha constituency, all the political leaders from the state focused their attention on as Swabimani Shetkari Sanghatana leader (SSS) national President and sitting MP Raju Shetty was contesting from this constituency and he retained his seat with thumping double majority clearly more than last Lok Sabha election in which he defeated Congress senior leader and former MP Kallappa Awade. After the election results, Mr Mahadik won but there was not any pleasurable moment in both the parties--Congress and NCP in the district.
People were dissatisfied against Congress and NCP as both its district ministers Labour Minister Hasan Mushrif and Minister of State for Home Satej Patil could not do anything on various burning issues except giving assurances.
Many issues including toll, various projects of the district, which dragged for many years and drinking water scheme could not be solved and people gave a message to Congress while giving thumping majority to BJP.
Now it was need for Congress to end their differences, factionalism and conflict between their leaders. With Assembly elections coming, both congress leaders must resolve their differences if they wanted some improvement in their performances in all the twelve Assembly constituencies of the district in the coming Assembly election.
