Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee today said her party, which had won 34 out of 43 Lok Sabha seats from West Bengal, would play a major role in the 16th Lok Sabha to serve the people's interest.

"We would play a big role in the interest of the people," Ms Banerjee, who is also the Chief Minister of West Bengal told reporters at the party headquarters here.

She dedicated the party's massive triumph to the people. "Thirty four out of 42 is a clear-cut mandate, specially fighting on our own. The people gave reply to the slanderous campaign against us through their verdict,' she said.

Ms Banerjee said the battle the party had gone through was a gruelling five-phase polls in which there were five or six-cornered contests.

She said though a section of media opposed the party, "people reposed their faith in Trinamool Congress".

She said all party MPs would go to Delhi on May 25 to take oath in the Lok Sabha.
