A total of 55,198 voters in eight Lok Sabha constituencies of Marathwada, franchised their voters by opting for 'None Of The Above' (NOTA) button, which was introduced for first time by the Election Commission this year.


In all the eight constituencies of Aurangabad, Jalna, Beed, Nanded, Latur, Osmanabad, Parbhani and Hingoli, a total of 55,198 voters used the NOTA button, according to the results of the Lok Sabha declared yesterday evening.

As per the results, Parbhani Lok Sabha seat had the highest of 17,502 voters who cast NOTA votes. Latur followed by 13,996 voters, Aurangabad with 7,372 voters, Osmanabad with 4,613 voters, Jalna with 4,128 voters, Nanded 3,155 voters, Hingoli 3,107 voters and 2,323 voters in Beed which was the lowest in the constituency.

Before the NOTA option came in existence, people casting negative votes were required to enter their names in a register and cast their vote on a separate paper ballot.

Meanwhile, of 196 candidates -- including recognised parties, smaller organizations and independents -- who contested in the Lok Sabha elections, 180 candidates have lost their security deposits because they failed to get minimum votes for refund of their deposit as per EC rule.
