The Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IIT-R), India's oldest technical institute today signed Memorandum of Understanding with University of Southampton, UK to promote collaborative research.


According to an official release here, the partnership with a world top-100 UK research University, University of Southampton by signing an MoU is to promote collaborative research, primarily in the areas of aviation and railway engineering, with a focus on developing technological solutions for the industry.

The Director of IIT Roorkee, Professor Pradipta Banerji and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Southampton, Professor Don Nutbeam, signed the agreement last Tuesday, during a joint workshop at Southampton.

On signing the agreement, Banerji, said, "To cement the relationship the institutions are holding a number of thematic workshops both in the UK and India."

"There are tremendous synergies between our institutions and excellent opportunities to build on these via a number of initiatives developed by the UK and Indian Governments to promote collaborative research, for example UKIERI and the recently established Newton-Bhabha Fund," Professor Mark Spearing, the Pro Vice-Chancellor, International of the University of Southampton who was present for the signing added.
