Counting begins on peaceful note in Maharashtra
The counting for all 48 parliamentaryconstituencies in Maharashtra began on a peaceful note undertight security across the state.
The counting started at 0800 hours.
The fate of 1,054 candidates, who were in fray for the 16th
Lok Sabha election on 48 seats, was sealed in more than 1.50 lakh
electronic voting machines (EVM) in three phases of polling by
total 7.89 crore electorate, including 4.18 crore women and 3.71
crore male voters.
Among the total voters, eleven lakh were young voters who
exercised their franchise for the first time in this election.
The promient candidates in the fray are Union Home Minister
Sushil Kumar Shinde, Milind Deora, Supriya Sule, daughter of NCP
chief and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, Gurudas Kamat,
state ministers Sunil Tatkare, Chhagan Bhujbal, former chief
minister Ashok Chavan, senior BJP leader Nitin Gadkari, Gopinath
Munde and others.
The result of Baramati parliamentary constituency is likely
to be announced at around noon as it has minimum candidates in
the fray, while Beed with the highest number of candidates in
fray in the state would be announced last.
