The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today arrested an executive engineer of Godavari Hydropower and Lift Irrigation Department while accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a complainant contractor here.

The complainant, a contractor by profession, had carried out some works of the department, for which he was paid the part amount and Rs 5,65,046 were pending with the department.

The engineer, Tejrao Ragho Soshe (47), attached with Aurangabad office, had sought Rs 25,000 as bribe from the complainant to release the cheque of his balanced amount, sources in ACB here said.

However, reluctant to pay the huge bribe amount, he approached the ACB's Aurangabad office and registered a complaint against Soshe.

After verifying the facts mentioned in the complaint, an ACB team this afternoon laid a trap at the executive engineer's office on Jalna Road and caught him red-handed while accepting the bribe money from complainant.

An offence under Sections 7, 13(1)D, 13(2) of the Indian Penal Code and under relevant section of Anti-Corruption Act, 1988 has been registered with the Jawahar Colony police station, sources added.
