Punjab procures 1.13 crore tonnes wheat
Various Government agencies and private millers procured more than 1,13,27,343 tonnes of wheat in Punjab till last evening against 1,09,23,149 tonnes on the date last year.
The procurement process is galloping towards target of 115 lakh tonnes for the rabi marketing season with more than one lakh tones of wheat being procured in 1757 procurement centers all over the state.
An official spokesman said that instructions have already been issued to make payment to farmers within 48 hours of lifting of their produce. Rs 13565.76 crore has already been paid to farmers.
He said out of total procurement, Government agencies procured 1,10,52,976 tonnes of wheat till date whereas private traders procured 2,74,367 tonnes.
MARKFED procured 24,87,133 tonnes, PUNSUP procured 23,47,830 tonnes whereas PUNGRAIN had procured 18,71,251 tonnes, PSWC procured 12,79,648 tonnes whereas PAIC was able to procure 11,07,437 tonnes of wheat.
The Central Government agency FCI had been able to procure 17,68,246 tonnes, he added.
The spokesman said District Ludhiana with 8,84,949 tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas district Bathinda with 8,15,149 tonnes of procurement was at second slot and district Patiala with 7,92,108 tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.
