Youth detained by police commits suicide, DSP rushes to station
A youth in his late twenties, who was detained by the Talasari police in connection with a case of alleged rape this morning at around 0800 hours rushed out of the police station and committed suicide by throwing himself in front of a speeding truck, the police said this evening.
Police said following a complaint by the members of the girl's family the police had called him to the police station last night, but both the girl and the boy seemed to have arrived at certain settlement and the matter was dropped.
However later in the night, the girl's family members insisted on registering a complaint with the police and the boy Ramesh Ingle was summoned to the police station, where he was made to wait and was being interrogated by the police personnel.
During the questioning, Ingle rushed out of the police station and onto the highway and threw himself before a speeding truck on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway, the police said.
He died on the spot and police have registered a case of suicide. The body has been sent for postmortem, police added. The speeding truck crushed him to death, the police said.
The details of the driver of the truck were immediately not available as the senior police officers have rushed to Talasari and probing the case.
Following the incident which is almost a death in custody as the youth was yet to be arrested and was only being interrogated, the Thane District Superintendent of Police Rajesh Pradhan rushed to Talasari this evening and is probing the matter further.
At time of compiling the news, the DSP was quizzing the police personnel from the police station, the police said.
