As many as eight people were killed and seven injured in two separate road accidents in Odisha during the last 24 hours.

In the first incident five members of a marriage party died and four others injured, one of them seriously, in a road accident at Bijadih on Dhenkanal-Kamakhyanagar road in Dhenkanal district in the wee hours today

In the second incident three members of a family including two minors were killed and as many including the driver injured when the vehicle they were travelling in met with an accident on NH-5 near Simulia college in Balasore district today.

Police said in the first incident the vehicle carrying nine members of marriage party was returning from Simonai to Mathakargola area of the Dhenkanal district after attending a marriage ceremony when the mishap took place around 0400 hours.

The vehicle crashed against a road side tree near Bijadiha village, killing five people on the spot. Four injured including the driver were admitted in the district hospital but later the driver was referred to Cuttack in a critical condition.

The deceased were identified as Sudhakar Sahu (55), Antaryami Behera (45), Souri behera (40) Pramod Behera (28) and Panchanana Behera (65). All of them belonged to Mathkargola and Balisahi area of Kamakhayanagar sub division.

The police seized the vehicle and sent the bodies for post mortem report. Police said the driver lost the control over the vehicle and it hit the road side tree.

In the second incident the victims were returning from Jajpur to their native village in Balasore after attending a marriage function when the mishap took place.

The vehicle rammed into a crane on the NH-5 near the Simulia college killing all the three persons on the spot .

Police identified the deceased as Niku Das (10) Murli Das(76) and Kaushik Das (17).

All the injured have been shifted to Cuttack SCB medical college and hospital, police said.
