West Bengal businessman son abducted and murdered for ransom
Sourav Agrawal (35) the son of a West Bengal businessman Pawan Agrawal, in Jhargram of Midnapur district was murdered by his captors 10 days after he was kidnapped and held for ransom. police said here today.
The body of Sourav was found under a Railway over bridge in Rambha in Ganjam district on May 6 last. The body which was in the moratorium of MKCG Hospital was handed over to the grieved family members today, police said.
The boy who was handling building material business in Jhargram was kidnapped on April 25 and a complaint in this regard was registered with the Jhargram police on April 28.
The kidnappers demanded Rs three-crore from Pawan on May 4 to release Sourav. But Pawan expressed his inability to arrange such a huge amount, the kidnappers reduced the amount to Rs 2.50-crores. Even then the businessman expressed his inability to give such a huge amount. police said.
On May 5 the kidnappers contacted Pawan over phone to deposit the ransom. On that day Sourav also talked to Pawan and requested father to give the money and release him.
That was the last call from the kidnappers and the last conversation between father-son duos', said one of the family members who came to MKCG Hospital here to take the body of Sourav today.
Jhargram police only came to know about the murder of Sourav after they arrested one accused on May 8 who confessed that they have killed Sourav and took the body by road and dumped it under the Railway over bridge.
The police are still investigating the case and interrogating the arrested accused, Jhargram police said.
