Daft Punk leads 56th Grammy Awards with five gongs
French electronic music act Daft Punk dominated the 56th edition of annual Grammy awards winning five awards, including best album and best record of the year.
Daft Punk's "Get lucky" won the record of the year award, while their "Random Access Memories" bagged the album of the year trophy at the awards ceremony at the Staples Center here Sunday.
Musicians Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalte's "Get lucky" also won the Grammy for the best pop duo group performance, while the best dance electronica album award was bagged by their "Random Access Memories", which also got best engineered album, non-classical trophy.
Daft Punk were nominated in five categories and they won all of them.
Close on the heels of Daft Punk was Rapper-producer duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis with four awards in their kitty -- best new artist, best new performance, best rap album and best rap song. They were nominated in seven categories.
"The Heist" won the best rap album and "Thrift shop", from the same, won the best rap performance and best rap song trophy.
Singer-songwriter and rapper Pharrell Williams took home three trophies - producer of the year, non-classical, record of the year and best pop duo-group performance.
He shared the record of the year and best pop duo-group performance award with musician duo Daft Punk for the song "Get lucky", which features Williams.
The surprise package was New Zealand born 17-year-old singer-songwriter Lorde as she took home two awards -- the song of the year and best pop solo performance category with a total of four nominations.
Her track "Royals", from the album "Pure Heroine", won the two honours.
Big names like Bruno Mars, Michael Buble, Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Paul McCartney, won one award each.
While Mars' second studio album "Unorthodox Jukebox" won the best pop vocal album trophy, Buble's "To Be Loved" bagged the best traditional pop vocal album.
"Cut me some slack", written and sung by Dave Grohl, Paul McCartney, Kris Novoselic and Pat Smear, won the best rock song trophy.
Rihanna's "Unapologetic" won the best urban contemporary album, while Keys took home the best R&B album trophy for "Girl On Fire".
Rapper Jay Z and singer-songwriter Justin Timberlake won the best rap-sung collaboration award for "Holy Grail".
Pop star Taylor Swift, who was nominated in four categories, did not win.
Country music artist Kacey Musgraves' "Same Trailer Different Park", which is her fourth album, won the best country album award.
