The Sunrisers Hyderabad have successfully defended a target of 135 to defeat the Rajasthan Royals by 32 runs in their Indian Premier League (IPL) clash at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday.

The Royals failed in their bid for a fifth successive victory, while the win took Hyderabad to the fifth spot on the points table with a third win of the campaign.

According to Sport24, although a hat-trick from Royals captain Shane Watson - the second in successive games at Ahmedabad - helped restrict the Sunrisers to 134 for nine on a decent-looking pitch, however, Hyderabad intensified their stranglehold with regular wickets and eventually knocked out Rajasthan over for 102 off the penultimate delivery of the match.

The report mentioned that only Australian Steve Smith (22) was able to get past the 20-mark in the end, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked up a trifecta of wickets in the 18th over to finish with figures of four for 14 in his four overs, and South African pacer Dale Steyn also chipped in with two for 31.

For the Royals, the insipid reverse sees them remain in third place having missed out on the opportunity to go level on points with the Chennai Super Kings, the report added.
