Village talathi arrested for graft in Maharashtra
A village Talathi, who demanded and accepted a bribe from a villager, has been arrested by the Thane unit of the ACB, ACB officials said today.
SP ACB Sandeep Karnik told UNI that a villager from Titwala of Kalyan taluka had purchased 5 guntas of land in the village Gotsai and had to get his name transferred on the 7/12 land extracts for which he approached the village Talathi.
But the village Talathi Ragunath B Burkhud, made a demand for Rs 20,000 for entering his name in the land records. After much deliberation it was decided that a sum of Rs 10,000 would be paid for the favour.
The complainant then lodged a complaint with the ACB officials who laid a trap at the office of the Talathi in Titwala shortly after noon on Thursday, the ACB said.
An offence under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered with the local police station, the ACB officials said.
