3 killed, as many injured in strange road accident in Ratnagiri
A van with six people, including driver was travelling to Khed from Sangameshwar this afternoon. Among the five passengers were a couple, identified as Praveen Ramchandra Kadam (40) and his wife Priyanka (38), residents of Khed, who were carrying the body of their 16-year-old daughter Dhanashree to their native place, police said.
While, a big trailer with a JCB machine was coming from opposite side and near Chand-Surya, the JCB machine suddenly slipped and collapsed on the van and crushed it completely.
In this incident, three people, including the couple and the van driver Naresh Ganpat Devrukhkar (50), also of Khed. were killed on the spot, while three others were injured. They have been admitted at Ratnagiri Civil Hospital.
The injured persons were identified as Umesh Babu Shetty (30) of Khed, Mohammad Tahir Zishan Khan (20) of MIDC Ratnagiri and Akshay Manohar Powar (18) of Khedshi village in Ratnagiri district.
After the incident, Ratnagiri Rural Police team rushed to the spot and carried out the rescue operation.
Incidentally, Dhanashree was killed on the spot after an autorickshaw hit her motor scooter this morning at Sagmeshwar. She was on her way to the examination centre to appear for MH-CET examination, sources added.
