The accused remanded to police custody are gang leader Samir Pathan, Sunil Anarthe, Walmik Sonawane, Sonu Bhadange, Nitin Kale and Ganesh Wagh.

The six accused were brought to the Nashik court yesterday for hearing in a MCOCA case. The gangsters were already angry with the police for handcuffing them, police said.

Last evening, Anarthe was using a mobile phone of his relative and when a cop took it away from him, other gang members beat up the cop.

When police sub-inspector Sachin Sawant tried to intervene, he was also kicked around by the accused and some of their relatives.

Pathan had attacked police earlier, also. Last year, while being taken to prison from hospital, he had attacked another PSI S M Gavit with his handcuffs, severely injuring him and tried to flee.

Cases have been filed against the Tipper gang members for assaulting government servants and causing hindrance to public servant from performing his duty.
