Ahmedabad, May 8 The Congress today linked with the BJP a Salaya-based trader called Haji Bashir, who allegedly had taken the boat on rent which was seized by the Australian Navy last month off the coast of Kenya with about 1023 kg heroin worth Rs 1,600 crore. UNI | 3 months ago

"Haji Bashir has close relations with the BJP. His brother Haji Aziz is a member of the BJP. His entire family helped in organising Narendra Modi's Sadbhavna event in Dwarka and Jamnagar," Gujarat Congress president Arjun Modhwadia told reporters.

He alleged that investigation into the whole matter related to the seizure of the drugs has not moved ahead in the state.

Mr Modhwadia alleged that Mr Modi also has links with Afroz Fatta, an accused in multi-crore hawala scam.

"All these issues raise questions on the election funding of the BJP," the Congress leader commented.

Mr Modhwadia said the BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate was "giving lectures" on the issue of security in his rallies across the country but in his home state the security of coastal areas was the 'worst'.

Mr Modhwadia alleged that the Modi government in Gujarat has taken steps only on paper for coastal security. On BJP president Rajnath Singh's comments that one medicine 'Modicine' was needed for the problems ailing the

country, Mr Modhwadia said the BJP and Mr Modi "were expert in political gimmick."

"Modi only is creating all these things, he tells his party leaders to say all these things," the Congress leader alleged.

In reply to a query on the BJP's protest in Varanasi and Delhi after the Election Commission denied permission for Mr Modi's rally in Varanasi, Mr Modhwadia said the BJP was trying to attract attention of people.

"Modi is afraid in Varanasi," the Gujarat Congress chief claimed.
