SC : No sanction needed for probing top bureaucrat
Supreme Court today quashed section 6A ofDelhi Special Police Establishment Act which made sanction of the government mandatory for prosecuting top public servants.
The apex court in its judgement noted that CBI will no longer require sanction to investigate the officer of the rank of joint secretary and above facing charges of corruption.
CBI director Ranjit Sinha has welcomed the Supreme Court judgement saying with today's ruling investigating agency would no more require any prior sanction of the government for interrogating and prosecuting corrupt public servant.
The Supreme Court observed that the protection was meant for honest and upright bureaucrat for discharging their official duty and not for the corrupt public servant.
