Mahayuti demands resignations of Mushrif and Satej Patil
The constituents of Mahayuti, comprising Shiv Sena, BJP, Republican Party of India (Athavale) and Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana (SSS) today demanded the resignation of two state ministers from the district, Hasan Mushrif and Satej Patil, after the Supreme Court set aside the Bombay High Court's stay order on collection of toll by IRB company for using the 49 km approach road to the city and other internal roads in city.
Addressing a joint news conference late this evening, BJP MLC Chandrakant Dada Patil and Shiv Sena MLA Rajesh Khirsagar said the Mahayuti was in favour of the toll free state. Both the ministers, Mr Mushrif and Mr Patil, had given assurances to All Party Action Committee against toll that the government would pay the amount on behalf of Kolhapur Municipal Corporation but they had done nothing in this regard, they said.
Mr Patil said the ministers should now use their influence and work towards abolition of toll, otherwise, they should resign from their posts and participate in ongoing public agitation against toll.
He said the leaders of Mahayuti would meet Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan after May 16 and request him to withdraw the toll in city. Meanwhile, the All Party Action Committee against toll has decided to take out a 'Mahamorcha' later this month in this regard.
