Two people, including a man and his minor son, drowned after they jumped into a pond following a leakage in their boat at the temple town of Titwala in the district.

Two families from Ulhasnagar, the Lullas and Matrejas, had visited the Titwala temple yesterday. The seven-member group then went for a boat ride at the Titwala Boat Club around 1930 hours, police said.

Suddenly, they noticed that the boat had started leaking, with water gushing in. They informed the boat club management which sent a rescue team. But by then, all seven had jumped into the pond.

The rescue team found the bodies of Narayandas Matreja (42) and his son Ajay (12) late at night.

The Titwala police has registered a case against those responsible for the incident, sources added.
