AICC General Secretary and Andhra Pradesh Congress affairs in-charge, Digvijay Singh today alleged that former chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and former Union Minister D Purendeswari had betrayed the party by quitting for their own political mileage.

Participating in a 'Meet the Press' programme, organised by Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists, he alleged Ms Purandeswari was given due respect by the party and made the Union Minister.

She quit the party and joined the BJP. 'It is a historic treachery', he charged.

Mr Singh alleged that Mr Reddy had quit the party and floated Jai Samakyandhra Praty.

"We are disappointed with Kiran Reddy. He had miserably failed not only individually but also let down the Congress party in the state," he said.

"However, unmindful of a senior leader quitting the Congress, the party cadre were stood by party supremo Sonia Gandhi and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi' he said and appreciated the party activists for remaining with the party.
