Ponzi agents' agitation disrupted train services
About 19 local trains at Sealdah section were cancelled today as services were hugely affected in morning rush hours both in Howrah and Sealdah divisions following 'Rail Roko' agitation by Chit Fund Sufferes' Unity Forum across West Bengal.
Meanwhile, reports from Nadia and Birbhum said two chit fund agents--Ziarul Mondal and Baidhyanath Moitra--allegedly committed suicide in the past 24 hours after failing to repay investors.
Another report from Garia station in South 24 Parganas said the agents and investors, while putting up blockade, were manhandled by ruling Trinamool Congress supporters for obstructing traffic.
State police and RPF brought the situation under control after three protesters were inured in the attacks.
CPI(M)'s Jadavpur Lok Sabha candidate Sujan Chakraborty condemning the attacks said every democratic protest of the people was brutally curbed by the ruling party.
Eastern Railway officials appealed to the protesters to lift the blockade from tracks across the state as the Indian Railways had nothing to do with the chit fund cases.
Blockades were erected in different parts of Howrah and Sealdah sections in the morning resulting in delays and cancellation of EMUs.
Hundreds of office-goers failed to make it to their destination.
Around 20,000 activists took part in the agitation across the state. The forum demanded arrest all chit fund owners.
Reports said Ziarul Mondal (32) of Chakdah under Nadia district and Baidhyanath Moitra of Sadaipur in Birbhum district allegedly committed suicide for failing to repay the investors.
Besides, Saradha Group, hundreds of other chit fund companies collapsed late last year depriving fund to the poor investors.
