Slamming BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi for calling Congress leader Ahmed Patel a 'good friend', Gujarat Congress chief Arjun Modhwadia today said the BJP leader has 'insulted' his own party leaders and respect for other leaders 'can't be expected from him'.

Mr Modhwadia said giving respect to others 'was not in Mr Modi's DNA'.

"Mr Modi insulted senior BJP leaders like L K Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Jaswant Singh and Keshubhai Patel. How can one expect respect from him for Congress leaders?" he said.

Mr Modhwadia claimed that Mr Patel, political secretary to the Congress president Sonia Gandhi, got approved a number of projects for Gujarat during the last 10 years of UPA government at the Centre.

Mr Modhwadia said Mr Modi would have written a letter to Mr Patel for this, but the Gujarat Chief Minister took all the credits.

The Gujarat Congress chief said Mr Modi was 'telling a lie' that he used to visit Mr Patel's house.

In an interview to Doordarshan, the BJP's PM nominee reportedly had called Mr Patel a 'good friend', who has stopped taking his calls.

However, this part of the interview was 'edited'.
