Brilliant double ton by Balwant Rai in M L Markan trophy
Prince Balwant Rai smashed a brilliant double ton (201) against Mohali in Punjab Inter-District Under-16 Cricket Tournament for M L Markan Trophy at Dhruv Pandove Stadium in Patiala today.
Winning the toss and opting to bat Patiala scored 380 in 98.3 overs before being bowled out. Patiala innings revolved around a 131 runs partnership between Prince Balwant Rai and Tejpreet Singh (60) and another partnership of 115 runs for the 7th wicket between Prince Balwant Rai and Abhishek Verma (26).
Prince Balwant Rai who came in when Patiala were precariously placed at 37 for 4 went on to hammer a double century off 263 balls studded with 36 fiercely hit boundaries and two towering sixes. He held the Patiala innings together to take his team to a tidy total of 380. Harshdeep Singh also chipped in with 33 off 53 balls inclusive of 5 boundaries and one six. For Mohali Akashdhari (6 for 138) and Shivang Saini (4 for 41) shared the spoils.

In the second match played at Gandhi Ground Amritsar, Amritsar winning the toss against Jalandhar opted to bat and rattled up 375 in 78.3 overs before being bowled out. Their innings was sustained by a brilliant century by Kunwar Pathak who scored 162 off 171 balls inclusive of 25 boundaries before being castled by Keshav.
Coming at the fall of 2nd wicket he held the Amritsar inning together and was the last man out at the score of 375. He was helped in his cause by Abhishek Sharma 63 off 67 balls studded with 11 boundaries Rahul Kashyap 52 off 59 balls inclusive of 9 boundaries and Shivam Sharma 49 off 82 balls with 4 boundaries.
A 83 runs 2nd wicket partnership between Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Kashyap and a 133 runs partnership between Kunwar Pathak and Shivam Sharma were the highlights of the Amritsar innings. For Jalandhar Kulwinder Singh (3 for 96), Parerit Datta 3 for 100 and Keshav Sharma (2 for 41) were the main wicket takers.
Replying Jalandhar made a disastrous start losing 3 wickets for a mare 11 runs in just four overs. Medium pacer Amit Sharma doing the damage by capturing 3 wickets for 7 runs. At close of play Jalandhar were tottering at 30 for 4 in 14 overs.
