Sacrilege act: Jathedars pronounce religious punishment to Majithia
Punjab Revenue Minister Bikramjit Singh Majithia will undergo religious sewa at all five Takhts for three day each as religious punishment for his sacrilege act.
The decision to this effect was pronounced by Jathedars of five Takhts, including Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh, Takht Kesgarh Jathedar Mal Singh and Takht Damdama Sahib Jathedar Baldev Singh Nandgarh, here today.
Akal Takht Head Granthi Giani Gurmukh Singh and Giani Jaswant Singh participated in the deliberations in place of Jathedars of two other Takhts.
The Punjab Cabinet Minister was also present at the Akal Takht when the punishment was pronounced for his religious sin.
Mr Majithia, during election campaign in favour of BJP candidate Arun Jaitley, had distorted the hymn of 10th Guru Gobind Singh. The Sikh bodies were up in arms and urged the Akal Takht Jathedar to hand over severe punishment to Mr Majithia.
Commenting on the decision, Dal Khalsa spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh said at least the Akal Takht Jathedar has dared to act against the close relative of mighty Badals and his de-facto appointing authority.
