Guv Sankaranarayanan presides over 54th Maharashtra Day function
Governor K Sankaranarayanan today unfurled the national flag and took salute from the ceremonial parade on the occasion of 54th anniversary of the formation of Maharashtra at a state function held at Shivaji Park, Dadar, in central Mumbai.
The function was organised by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) at the Mayor's Bungalow in Shivaji Park area of Dadar.
Later in the evening, he felicitated the Padma Awardees for 2013 and winners of the National Bravery Awards from the state at a function held at Darbar Hall in Raj Bhavan.
The Padma Awardees felicitated were Dr Raghunath Mashelkar (Science and Engineering), B K S Iyengar (Yoga), Begum Parveen Sultana (Arts-Classical Singing), Prof Jyeshtharaj Joshi (Science and Engineering), Leander Paes (Sports-Tennis), Nayana Apte Joshi (Art) and Vijay Ghate (Art-Tabla).
The list further includes Ram Mohan (Art-Film Animation), PareshRawal (Art-Cinema), Sooni Taraporewala (Art-Script Writing), Vidya Balan (Art-Cinema), Durga Jain (Social Work), Shekar Basu (Science and Engineering) and Dr Ravi Bhushan Grover (Science and Engineering).
Ramkrishna Hosur (Science and Engineering), Rajesh Saraiya (Trade and Industry), Pratap Govindrao Pawar (Trade and Industry), Dr Ramakant Deshpande (Medicine-Oncology), Dr Shashank Joshi (Medicine-Endocrinology) and Dr Milind Kirtane were also fecicitated.
The National Bravery awardees were Shubham Santosh Chaudhari, Sanjay Navasu Sutar, Akshay Jayaram Roz and Tanvi Nandakumar Ovhal.
