Police arrests youth for demanding ransom
Anti Ruffian Squad (ARS) of Sangli police today arrested a 23-year-old youth, who demanded Rs ten lakh as ransom and threatened to release a indecent video tape of a married woman.
The accused, with used a Sim card from his sister's phone who was identified as Sonya alias Adarsh Tulsidas Bhandare, resident of Walva village of this district.
A person met District Superintendent of Police Deelip Sawant with a complaint that a unidentified person threatened him on mobile with the release of indecent video tapes of his married niece and demanded ransom of Rs 10 lakh. Mr Sawant immediately ordered ARS Chief inspector Prakash Gaikwad to track down the person.
After investigation the police arrested Bhandare, who used a Sim card of a woman, who gave her card to her relative for use. But few days later this card was stolen from a saloon.
Police investigated four persons including Bhandare, who came frequently to the shop. Bhandare confessed the crime, who used this stolen Sim card from his sister's mobile and frequently threatened the victim's uncle to give Rs 10 lakh as ransom otherwise he would release indecent video tape of his niece.
Mr Gaikwad said that accused Bhandre was handed over to Astha police for further investigation, who will produce Bhandare before the court this evening for remand.
