A sessions court today convicted and sentenced a 23-year-old youth to three years and six months imprisonment for abducting a mentally-retarded minor girl and attempting to rape her in Bhiwandi in 2010.


Additional Sessions Judge S N Shelke found guilty Amrut Kaluram Dandekar, a resident of Khoni Village of Bhiwandi taluka, under Sections 376(2)(f), 511, 366(a), 363 and 34 of Indian Penal Code and awarded him imprisonment of three years. All sentences will run concurrently.

The court imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 to Rs 3,000, in default.

The court, however, acquitted his friend Kishore Vasant Shelke (22), who had accompanied the accused at the time of the incident, on benefit of doubt.

Prosecutor D S Mishra told the court that it was on June 26, 2010, when the victim was playing in the courtyard of the house along with her sister, the accused wooed her and took her for a ride on a motorbike.

Since that evening till June 28, 2010, the girl was in his custody. During which, he allegedly held the girl captive and attempted to rape her, he added.
