The tiger pair namely 'Samrudhi and Siddharth' at the Siddharth Garden and Zoo of Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has given birth to three cubs recently.

The three cubs, including two females, were born to tigress Samrudhi eight weeks ago here, B S Naikwade, director of zoo, said.

Due to critical period at initial stages, the new borns were kept at a safe place since their birth and they may now be brought to the zoo.

The cubs are the fourth generation of tigers in this Zoo. Twelve years ago, a pair 'Tara and Jahangir' brought here from Punjab had given birth to a pair Dipti and Guddu, and the same pair had given birth to the Samrudi and Siddharth.

Besides that, the Zoo authorities have also sent one pair each from here to a Zoo in Indore and Sanjay Gandhi National Park at Borivili in Mumbai, he said.

As per the tiger census across the country, there are 1,822 tigers in the country and their number would go up to 1,825 in near future, Mr Naikwade added.
