The Maharashtra government today increased the limit of Accidental Fund relief to Rs 2,500 crore from Rs 1,000 crore, with a view to disburse compensation amount to farmers who have suffered losses due to recent hailstorm in the state.

A decision to this effect was taken in a state cabinet meeting held here, an official release said.

Earlier, the accidental fund limit was Rs 150 crore, but the same was increased to Rs 1,000 crore on April 5 this year following the havoc wreaked by the recent hailstorm in the state.

Now, this limit has been temporarily increased to Rs 2,500 crore. It will benefit the farmers who have suffered heavy losses in hailstorm, it added.
