Jena rules out any power crisis in Odisha during summer
Odisha Energy Secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena today said there was enough water in reservoirs for generation of hydro power and ruled out any power crisis in the state.
Mr Jena said this while participating in a two-day long workshop on the successful management of cyclonic storm 'Phailin'- 2013 and accomplishing emergent restoration within a record time.
He claimed that due to the better water management during the last monsoon most of the reservoirs generating power have enough water and said as against the daily requirement of 3200 MW to 3800 MW the energy department was providing 4200 MW of power.
If required more power will also be procured from thermal sector to meet the demand, he said.
Inaugurating the workshop Odisha Chief Secretary J K Mohapatra said plan for disaster management in power sector should be chalked out after reviewing and scrutinizing the extent of the preparedness and ability to respond from 1999 super cyclone to 2013 Phailin.
Mr Mohapatra said outcomes of this workshop should be taken up for preparation of cyclone resilient power supply system.
Mr Jena said a system has to be developed for any future disasters of greater dimension taking lessons learnt from present.
Proper introspection and capacity assessment will show the way to master more resources and technology in future, he said.
An emergency procurement plan, standard operation procedure (SOP) and more skilled manpower be created for quick and effective response in future.
