3 killed in building collapse in Surat, magisterial probe ordered
The Gujarat government today ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident of building collapse in Surat in which three people, including a four-month-old child were killed.
The state government has also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the kin of the deceased. Three people were killed and as many others injured when a portion of a ten-floor residential building collapsed at Ghoddod road in Surat. A portion of first floor to sixth floor of Kanhaiya Palace under Umra police station collapsed at around 1330 hrs. Surat Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana said a woman and two children were killed while three others injured in the incident.
The portion of the building collapsed when a repair work was going on at a house on the sixth floor. The deceased have been identified as Puja Agarwal (40), Mit (8)and four-month-old Darshan. Fire brigade, ambulances and police teams reached at the spot and rescued 45 people from the building.
