The Jammu and Kashmir home department suspended mobile and internet services in the valley early Sunday morning for the security of Republic Day celebrations.

Reports said that security agencies requested the state home department to stop the service.

Top official of the state home said they stopped the service on the threats of militant activities. He said the State government did not want any disturbance in the valley.

"We will restore the service in the afternoon when the functions are over in Srinagar at Bakshi Stadium," he said.

The separatist leaders criticized the state government for barring internet service in the valley. They said that Government every time stops service on Jan 26 and Aug 15.

The month of January witnessed five encounters in the valley where six militants were killed.

On Jan 8 militants killed one Sub inspector in Sopore town of north Kashmir while other three SOG personnel were injured.
