AITC reacts to baseless allegations made by Narendra Modi
All India Trinamool Congress General Secretary Mukul Roy, National Spokespersons of the party Derek O'Brien and Amit Mitra today addressed a Press Conference at the party headquarters to counter the baseless claims made by Narendra Modi at a public rally in Serampore.
During his brief speech, Derek O'Brien said that making personal accusations without any basis is not what elections are made of. "Fight politically, not personally. Otherwise we too can ask personal questions. We challenge him to debate the Bengal model of development. Modi's comments are against the moral fabric of the nation." he added.
Mukul Roy rubbished the claims that Didi's paintings were sold for an exorbitant sum of Rs 1.8 crore. He said every penny Trinamool receives as funds were accounted for and were audited.
Calling Modi egotistical and arrogant, Mr Roy added, 'Mr Modi has forgotten political courtesies and is indulging in personal attacks. We have written to the EC against Mr Modi's speech yesterday. It is a blatant lie and violation of MCC. Mr Modi is arrogant. His hands are stained with the blood of riots. He has already decided he is the next PM. How can he do that? We are worried about India's future.'
Talking about allegations against Ms Banerjee, he said, 'Mamata Banerjee is the epitome of honesty, integrity and accountability. Ms Banerjee sold her books and used the money to help people in distress. The money from selling Didi's paintings was donated to relief fund and used for funding elections. No painting was sold for exorbitant prices. Such claims are false and politically motivated."
Slamming Mr Modi for his allegations, Mr Mitra raised the issue of corruption during the NDA regime. He demanded an answer for the UTI scam worth Rs 25,000 crore, which affected 2 crore people in India. He also demanded to know why Modi is silent on the Balco scam which was a complete erosion of public money in the name of divestment.
Dr Mitra said, "Mamata Banerjee does not even take her salary as CM. She does not use Government cars. We have always demanded state funding of elections. This is reflected in our Manifesto also. Mr Modi is arrogant and a snob. He is making false allegations against a woman who has struggled all her life. Someone whose hands are stained with the blood of riots in Gujarat, is making personal attacks against Didi. We will bring out facts to prove how Mr Modi is misleading the nation with his baseless claims of development."
"Mr Modi parachutes into Bengal, knows nothing about the State and indulges in personal attacks. He has changed the political discourse to the lowest common denominator. Mr Modi should publicly apologise for the comments made by him." Dr Mitra added.
